School of Medicine- Course Introduction
Department of Cardiovascular and Renal Medicine Division of Kidney and Dialysis
Departments of Clinical Sciences (Clinical Medicine)
The main clinical and research goals of our department are "1. To inhibit the progression of any renal disease to end-stage renal failure" and "2. To inhibit complications in patients with chronic renal failure." To this end, we are engaged in a wide range of clinical research and highly original pioneering research activities using basic approaches.
- Iron metabolism disorders in dialysis patients
- Factors affecting renal function in patients with chronic kidney disease
- Association between iron dysregulation and vascular calcification
- Imbalanced gut microbiota composition and iron metabolism disorders
- Considerations regarding optimal management of secondary hyperparathyroidism
- Pharmacokinetics of metal phosphate binders and their relationship to complications in patients with chronic kidney disease
- Association between anemia treatment that promotes physiological hematopoiesis and events and life prognosis in patients with chronic kidney disease
These are the main research themes that we have been working on up to now. However, despite recent advances in treatment techniques, there are still many cases in which nephritis and renal dysfunction progress to renal failure, and the prognosis for patients with chronic renal failure and dialysis remains poor.
In response to these issues, our department is conducting research activities with the goal of elucidating the pathology by integrating clinical research and biological information at the molecular level, and has already achieved some results, but we believe that it is necessary to continue to actively report on these issues in basic and clinical medical journals and academic conferences both in Japan and overseas, and to widely disseminate this information. Based on the results of our research in this field, we would like to investigate new technologies for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, and evaluate and organize existing treatment methods, aiming to establish appropriate treatment policies.
