概要
2015年5月17－19日にイギリス、グラスゴーで開催されたThe European Stroke Organization Conference 2015で発表した「BRAIN VASCULAR PERICYTES ACQUIRE STEMNESS FOLLOWING ISHEMIC INSULT」がBest Poster Awardを授与された。
研究の背景
脳組織再生に関わる幹細胞研究と、中枢神経障害の再生医療を目指し,成体組織より神経幹細胞を取り出し分化増殖させて細胞治療に応用するための基礎研究を行ってきた。
今回、ESO2015において、ポスター発表の中でPoster Walkに選出され、さらにBest Poster Awardをうけたが、これは内因性幹細胞の新たな能力に注目が集まった結果と考えている。
研究手法と成果
The present study by Matsuyama and coworkers showed for the first time the possible contribution of endogenous multipotent stem cells, which was reprogrammed from the normal somatic cells (vascular cells), to the repairing process following ischemic stroke.
This phenomenon may open a new page for the regenerative medicine without using the ectopic stem cells like iPS to reconstitute the injured tissue including post-stroke brain.
今後の課題
内因性幹細胞活用法を提唱する必要がある。
