Extracurricular use of the laboratory to promote self-study by students
Students who enroll in School of Nursing have a clear motivation to become nurses in the future. In order to respond to the eagerness to learn of such highly motivated students, we have established a system that allows them to use the nursing lab outside of class time.
Opening of nursing practice rooms

During times when classes are not being held (7:30-20:00), the Basic Nursing Lab and Adult Nursing Lab are open to students for self-study of nursing techniques.
Students discuss and practice with their classmates to find ways to improve their nursing skills. Teachers are always present in the practical training room, so students can consult with them as they progress through their studies.
The training room is modeled after a hospital and contains not only bedside medical equipment, but also numerous high-performance medical models (dolls) and devices.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are taking measures to prevent infection, such as limiting the number of people using the facility and separating usage days by class, and we also keep and manage records of users for each bed.
Message from the Faculty

When aiming to become a nurse, it is very important to improve your nursing skills from an early stage.
The main subjects that students study in the laboratory are bed making, body cleaning, vital sign measurement, meal assistance, excretion assistance, transfer and transportation using wheelchairs and stretchers in the first year, and blood sampling, intramuscular injections, and urethral catheter insertion in the second year. When students go out for clinical training, they improve their practical skills with fellow students and medical models (dolls) so that they can perform safe and comfortable nursing techniques that are appropriate for the people they are caring for. Our university has a wide variety of medical models that students can use freely, making it a great environment to hone their skills. We have devised a way to practice as if they were in a clinical training, using tools and equipment used in actual medical settings.
When I teach students, I always keep in mind the importance of linking "knowledge" with "practice." It is difficult to embody knowledge learned in a classroom, so I first check the students' level of knowledge, ask questions, and advise them to think for themselves, take action, and then link it to appropriate practice.
The faculty of Nursing are very enthusiastic about education. By using this practical room, students can imagine the people they will be caring for and practice nursing techniques creatively and with evidence. I, including myself, sometimes help students with their practice so that each student can get closer to their ideal goals, and we strive to improve their nursing skills.
