School of Medicine- Course Introduction

Department of Medical Informatics

Departments of Clinical Sciences (Clinical Science Program)

We conduct education and research on the management and handling of medical information and the use of information and communication technology.

In modern medicine, it is necessary to utilize and properly handle a variety of information, including not only medical records such as charts, but also test data output from medical devices, package inserts for drugs and medical materials, calculation materials for medical expenses (medical fees) under the national health insurance system, case data for medical research, records of medical safety cases, etc. In particular, in recent years, data health reform has been promoted as one of the government's key policies, and it can be said that the way medical information is managed and medical information systems in Japan is in the midst of a major transformation.

On the other hand, from the perspective of personal information protection, medical information is classified as sensitive personal information that requires special care in handling, and doctors are strongly expected to make maximum use of medical data with consideration for the public interest and to handle it with particular care and consideration for individuals.

Through the development and operation of the university's information and communications infrastructure and hospital information system at our Information Center, we are accumulating practical knowledge regarding the development and operation of the information and communications environment in the hospital, as well as the utilization and appropriate handling of various medical information. We are also accumulating knowledge about the potential of medical information technology through research into the various uses of information and communications technology in line with actual clinical situations, and are providing education to the next generation of medical professionals about the management and utilization of medical information, and medical information technology.
