School of Medicine- Course Introduction
Department of Medical Education
Departments of Basic Sciences (Basic Science Program)
In Department of Medical Education, we place the utmost importance not only on medical education research but also on learning support.
For this reason, the school works in cooperation with Medical Education Center and the Medical Professional Development and Training Center, and in addition to providing learning support, particularly to those with low academic ability, it also devotes a lot of time to interviewing students and providing individual instruction.
We are also involved in all aspects of medical education, including cross-disciplinary educational practices such as off-campus clinical training, early clinical exposure training, team-based learning (TBL), medical communication, interprofessional collaboration/team medical care, and preclinical education, as well as OSCE/CBT/national exam preparation, common examination/comprehensive examination/graduation examination administration, support for studying abroad, matching information, and career guidance.
The medical knowledge required in School of Medicine is so vast that it is impossible to cram all of it into lectures in large classrooms alone. Therefore, students are expected to study on their own, and active learning is required. Team-Based Learning (TBL) has now been introduced to all grades from 1st to 4th year, and is at the heart of active learning methods at our university. TBL is a method in which students study on their own based on preparatory materials presented in advance, and then solve RATs (readiness tests) and applied problems in groups. This method has already been used at our university for over 10 years.
Our university has a long history of collaborative education with School of Nursing, School of Rehabilitation, and School School of Pharmacy, and the most representative example of this is the team medical training seminar held in the third year (fourth year for other faculties). Students are divided into groups across the four faculties and spend more than a week examining a given clinical problem, which helps students recognize the importance of interprofessional collaborative education.
