School of Medicine- Course Introduction
Department of Respiratory Medicine and Hematology Division of Hematology
Departments of Clinical Sciences (Clinical Medicine)
Department of Respiratory Medicine and Hematology Division of Hematology is a facility where experts in the field can provide specialized treatment for all blood disorders, including hematopoietic disorders (aplastic anemia, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, etc.), hematopoietic tumors (leukemia, malignant lymphoma, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome, myeloproliferative disorders, etc.), thrombosis and hemostatic disorders (thrombocytopenia/thrombocytopenia, hemophilia/coagulation disorders, thrombotic predisposition, etc.), and HIV infection, and is the base for the treatment of blood disorders in the Hanshin area.
In particular, regarding hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, we performed the first bone marrow transplant in 1980, and have performed over 1,400 transplants to date. Transplantation methods have undergone new innovations over time, and our department performs all types of transplantation treatments, including unrelated donor transplants, peripheral blood stem cell transplants, umbilical cord blood transplants, and HLA half-matched transplants (haplotransplants), while also conducting various clinical research. Recently, in addition to this transplantation treatment, we have become one of 13 certified facilities in Japan for CAR-T cell therapy, and will actively work on new cell therapies in the future.
On the other hand, we continue to treat many cases of hemostatic disorders such as hemophilia and HIV infection, which are not actively treated in the hematology departments of other facilities.
As described above, our department has a wide range of specialized treatments for all blood diseases, and is a facility where the latest treatments, clinical trials, and research can be carried out.
