School of Medicine- Course Introduction
Department of General Medicine and Community Health Science
Departments of Clinical Sciences (Clinical Medicine)
The Department Department of General Medicine and Community Health Science, in cooperation with the Department of Department of Emergency Community Medicine and the Department of Functional Reconstruction Medical Care, is engaged in an advanced initiative at the Sasayama Campus that is leading the nation in providing medical practice and education in areas experiencing population decline and aging.
Hyogo Medical University took over from the National Sasayama Hospital in October 1997 and opened Hyogo Medical University Sasayama Hospital. In June 1999, the Rehabilitation Center was opened, followed by a geriatric health facility in September of the same year. In June 2010, the hospital was renamed Sasayama Medical Center and relocated, and in January 2016, the Home Care Service Center was opened.
Sasayama Medical Center is a hospital with 180 beds in total, including 92 beds in the acute general ward, 44 beds in the community comprehensive care ward, and 44 beds in the rehabilitation ward, and is the core of the Sasayama campus. We provide medical care mainly in the departments of general medicine, internal medicine, orthopedics, and rehabilitation. For cases that are difficult to diagnose and treat, or cases that require advanced medical care, we work closely with Hyogo Medical University Hospital (Nishinomiya Main Branch) to refer patients and provide support to doctors. We have part-time doctors dispatched to provide medical care and education in the departments of cardiology, gastroenterology, hepatology, pancreatic medicine, diabetes, endocrinology, metabolism, immunology, respiratory medicine, hematology, neurology, rheumatology, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, urology, and ophthalmology.
Sasayama Medical Center, the Geriatric Health Care Facility, and the Home Service Center work together to provide seamless medical and nursing care, from the acute phase to the chronic phase and even at home, so that everyone living in the area can live a fulfilling life in their own way in the area they are familiar with, thereby contributing to the community and society.
Taking advantage of this feature, we provide education such as clinical training for School of Medicine of School of Medicine, as well as multi-professional collaborative training with the four faculties of Medicine, School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, and School of Rehabilitation. For initial clinical training, we accept community medical trainees from Hyogo Medical University Hospital, Kobe City Medical Center General Hospital/West Municipal Hospital, and Himeji Red Cross Hospital.
