School of Medicine- Course Introduction
Department of Diabetes Endocrinology and Clinical Immunology
Departments of Clinical Sciences (Clinical Medicine)
The Department of Department of Diabetes Endocrinology and Clinical Immunology was established as one of the five departments of internal medicine as a new department following the reorganization of the Department of Internal Medicine on April 1, 2020. The medical department is responsible for the Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism and the Department of Allergy and Rheumatology, and each department provides highly specialized medical care.
Since 2000, several departments of internal medicine Hyogo Medical University have been separated from the main department, improving the level of education, research, and medical care in specialized fields. Specifically, the Department of Diabetes was created from the Second Department of Internal Medicine, the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism from the Third Department of Internal Medicine, and the Department of Rheumatology and Collagen Diseases was created by integrating the Second and Third Departments of Internal Medicine, each of which has achieved the ambitious goal of nurturing medical specialists in highly specialized fields. However, due to the need to educate doctors and medical scientists who can handle a wide range of internal medicine while maintaining the characteristics and advantages of Hyogo College of Medicine, reintegrations have been carried out one after another since 2013, and we have reached the present day.
The Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism Group and the Immunology Group each require management of the entire body, not just individual organs, and are required to work in a similar way to a general practitioner such as an internist. In that sense, our department aims to produce young doctors and medical scientists who have not only advanced expertise but also a broad understanding of internal medicine in general, while strengthening cooperation not only in clinical practice but also in education and research. All staff members are working hard in education, research and clinical practice, making the most of the characteristics of each group and maximizing the synergy effects that come from the integration.
