School of Medicine- Course Introduction

Department of Cardiovascular and Renal Medicine Division of Cardiovascular Medicine

Departments of Clinical Sciences (Clinical Medicine)

In recent years, the Department of Internal Medicine at our university has been undergoing restructuring. First, in October 2018, the two departments of Cardiology and Coronary Disease, both of which originated from the former First Department of Internal Medicine, were merged to form the new Department of Cardiology. In April 2020, the Department of Nephrology and Dialysis was added, and the new Department of Cardiology and Renal Dialysis Medicine has continued to operate to this day.
At the university hospital, the Department of Cardiology and the Department of Nephrology and Dialysis are operated as independent medical departments. In both departments, we actively conduct not only basic research but also clinical research, and to further develop education, research, and medical care, we actively report research content at academic conferences and in papers, and also actively engage in personnel exchanges such as joint research and studying abroad with domestic and overseas research institutions.
In the Department of Cardiology, we conduct research into a wide range of cardiovascular diseases, including ischemic heart disease such as myocardial infarction and angina pectoris, peripheral arterial disease such as lower limb occlusive arteriosclerosis and deep vein thrombosis, heart failure such as cardiomyopathy and valvular disease, high blood pressure, and arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and sick sinus syndrome. Clinical research includes multicenter joint research into acute myocardial infarction, research using intravascular imaging methods, research into the pathophysiology of heart failure and new treatments, research into the mechanisms and predictors of atrial fibrillation, as well as prevention and treatment methods. Basic research includes research into the mechanism of heart failure exacerbation using molecular techniques, and research into iron and anemia in cardiovascular disease.
To fulfill the mission of the university hospital to disseminate new knowledge on cardiovascular disease, we actively lead and participate in various multi-institutional joint research projects, and are engaged in high-level clinical and basic research.
