School of Medicine- Course Introduction

Laboratory of Molecular and Genetic Therapeutics

Institute for Advanced Medical Sciences

We are entering an era in which viruses and cells are used as medicine to treat illnesses. Our department is conducting research and development with the aim of "curing incurable diseases by genetically modifying viruses and cells."

●Development of viral therapy for intractable cancers: We are conducting basic and translational research aimed at developing new cancer viral therapies using oncolytic adenoviruses and replication-promoting retroviruses (RRVs) developed by our laboratory. Clinical trials of RRV-based cancer viral therapy have begun in Europe and the United States in collaboration with UCSF and companies.
●Development of gene and cell therapy for intractable genetic diseases: We are conducting basic and translational research in collaboration with Osaka University and companies with the aim of developing cell and gene therapy for intractable genetic diseases such as epidermolysis bullosa.
