School of Medicine- Course Introduction

Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology

Departments of Basic Sciences(Basic Medicine)

Our department was founded by Professor Katsuya Jo, and continued to develop under Professor Masaki Seki. It has been in its current form since 2015.
In education, we play a part in Anatomy Education which is the basis of medical education. We are in charge of lectures on organ development, circulatory system, respiratory system, urogenital system, endocrine system, sensory system, and central nervous system anatomy, and are in charge of anatomy training together with the Laboratory of Anatomy and neuroscience department. In anatomy training starting in the second semester of the first year, we strive to convey respect for human dignity. Our research aims to elucidate the biological regulatory mechanism of the nervous system, including the autonomic nervous system, using Laboratory of Anatomy and histological techniques. One of the themes is elucidating the developmental process of the nervous system. We are conducting research with the belief that accumulating knowledge of the developmental process will lead to elucidation of the functions of the nervous system, and in the future, knowledge for the regeneration of the nervous system.
We also aim to elucidate the mechanism by which the autonomic nervous system regulates organ function in order to clarify the role of the autonomic nervous system in pathological conditions. Furthermore, we are conducting research with the goal of obtaining knowledge that will lead to the treatment of diseases through elucidating the biological regulatory mechanism of the hypothalamic-pituitary system.
Undergraduate students, including those in the research medical course, are conducting research on sensory receptors and the nervous system, and some of them have published papers. In the future, we will actively support students in their research education and actively incorporate new research methods to advance research.
