Overview
Substances that stimulate the immune system are called adjuvants. They are generally known as medicines used to increase the effectiveness of vaccines or treat cancer, but various chemicals present in the environment (such as PM2.5 and bisphenol A) that induce unwanted immune responses (such as allergies) also have the effect of stimulating the immune system. Such adjuvants range from simple ones that stimulate natural immune receptors to ones that act on cell death or other immune cells.
In this course, we are conducting research to clarify the mechanism of action of adjuvants.
What's new?
To clarify the mechanism of action of environmental particles and adjuvants that activate the immune system.
What are its advantages over other studies?
The availability of various tools (e.g., gene-deficient mice) that are useful for analyzing the mechanism of action of immune stimulants.
In addition, the group has a long track record of success, including elucidating the mechanism of action behind allergy development caused by environmental particles.
What problem does it help solve?
It is expected that elucidating the mechanism of action of pharmaceuticals or environmental chemicals related to immune diseases will lead to the resolution of various issues related to pharmaceutical safety and the development of new treatments and prevention methods.
