Earthquake and tsunami disaster prevention drill conducted at Kobe Campus
On Friday, July 4th, a disaster prevention drill simulating an earthquake and tsunami was held on the Kobe Campus, with the participation of first-year students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Rehabilitation who are taking an academic literacy course, along with related faculty and staff. The drill began with a lecture on "Preparing for a Tsunami" by Chief Tanaka Kazuhiro of the Kobe City Minakami Fire Department. This was followed by a temporary evacuation from Octa Hall to the lawn plaza and mini-ground, followed by a secondary evacuation to the fourth floor of M Building in the event of a tsunami. After the drill, Chief Tanaka and our university's Vice President, Toshiyuki Tanaka, each provided feedback.
This year's training also served as a verification of the "Draft evacuation procedures and guidelines for action within 72 hours of an earthquake and tsunami at the Kobe Campus Hyogo Medical University." Although there were many changes from previous training, such as evacuation routes and evacuation locations, both students and faculty members were able to approach the training with a sense of urgency, imagining an actual evacuation.
