AI automatically summarizes explanations of medical conditions and records them in electronic medical records -Hyogo Medical University Hospital in Japan to introduce this system

On June 1, 2025, Hyogo Medical University Hospital (located in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture; Director: Hiroki Ikeuchi) introduced "medimo," a medical support tool that utilizes voice recognition and generative AI. This marks the first time this tool has been introduced at a university hospital in Japan. Developed by medimo Inc. (located in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo; Representative Directors: Shao-Hang Ma, Yang Nakahara, and Reitaro Nomura), medimo automatically transcribes conversations in the medical field and uses generative AI to create summaries, streamlining recording in electronic medical records. This tool is particularly useful for assisting doctors in recording medical condition explanations and informed consent (explanations and consent before treatment or surgery).
Through this initiative, Hyogo Medical University Hospital aims to improve the efficiency and quality of medical operations, as well as provide better explanations and understanding to patients.

Expected effects of introducing this system

1. Significant reduction in doctors' recording time
2. Accurate records that do not rely on doctors' memories
3. Recorded data allows you to review the explanation at a later date
4. By providing clear, easy-to-understand explanations that are easy for AI to summarize, doctors will also be able to improve their explanation skills.

In clinical settings, doctors are required to record in patient charts the details of explanations they give to patients, their reactions, and details of any questions or answers they may have. With the advancement of medical care and an increase in high-risk patients, the time spent on explanations is tending to increase, but in the past, doctors had to recall the details after the consultation and record them, which was a time and mental burden.
With the newly introduced "medimo," doctors record explanations to patients on their in-hospital smartphones, transcribe the audio in real time, and then the AI generates a summary of approximately 1,000 characters. The summary is converted into a two-dimensional barcode, which is scanned and transferred to an electronic medical record terminal without going through the internet. The entire process from barcode conversion to recording takes just one minute.
Currently, one doctor selected from each medical department has begun using the system, and the accuracy of the summaries generated by the AI has been highly praised. After confirming the stable operation of the system, the company plans to establish a system in which all doctors can use it within the fiscal year. In the future, the company also plans to expand the system to other medical staff, including nurses.
