President's speech (excerpt)

Congratulations to the 6th grade students and their parents on their graduation. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you.
You have entered our school as "Hyogo University of Health Sciences students" and will graduate as "Hyogo Medical College students".
The school song we just sang has been reborn as Hyogo Medical University the student song of the four faculties by adding the lyrics about School of Medicine to the school song of Hyogo University of Health Sciences in the fourth verse, thanks to the kind attention of Taisho Chair of the Board of Trustees. Please sing it again at alumni meetings.

Remember when you were freshmen, you listed two responsibilities of the university? The first is our responsibility to society to provide good medical professionals to the world, and the second is our responsibility to educate you so that you can lead a happy life as a medical professional. Japan will face a declining birthrate and population that no one has ever experienced before. What do we need to do to lead a happy life as a medical professional in such a future society? First of all, "to feel your own joy in making patients' illnesses better. Secondly, you must become a professional. When you hear the word "professional," you may imagine earning an income through highly specialized skills, but this is a professional's point of view. What the general public expects from professionals is professional knowledge and professional ethics. Medical professionals also need to live up to the trust of their patients with human morals and high ethical standards. It is a matter of course, but I believe that being honest, moral, and humane is essential for survival in the future society.

You all have a wonderful future ahead of you. Whether you work at Hyogo Medical College or not, I hope that you will devote yourselves to what you love straight away with confidence and lead a happy life. I congratulate you all today.
