Preventing long-term care through correspondence courses ~ Held an offline meet-up for the ASHIYA correspondence course (Hyogo Medical University × Konan Women's University × Ashiya City Social Welfare Council)
Hyogo Medical University, in collaboration with Konan Women's University and Ashiya City Social Welfare Council, launched the "ASHIYA Health Correspondence Course" in April 2024 with the aim of "improving health literacy and preventing nursing care among the elderly."
On June 17th, a "physical fitness test (offline meet-up)" was held for participants of this course, with five participants participating. The participants had their bone density, muscle mass, walking speed, etc. measured, and received advice from a physical therapist, in a relaxed atmosphere. Students from both universities also participated as supporters, interacting with the participants.
About the "ASHIYA Health Correspondence Course"
We offer correspondence health courses targeted at people who don't want to go to a physical center but want to learn about health information such as exercise and nutrition (oral health), and people who can't keep up with exercising at home. Every month, textbooks and assignments are delivered to your home, and by returning the assignments, you can receive feedback in red pen from a professional. For those who wish, we hold face-to-face "physical fitness tests (offline meetups)" twice a year.
The program will begin in April 2024 and target Ashiya residents, with 10 people taking part as a trial. The average age of participants is 78, and some of them tend to stay at home. The program aims to become a new platform for preventing the need for nursing care, and to be expanded nationwide in the future.
