"2023 Hyogo Medical University Kobe Campus Graduation Ceremony" held
On March 15, 2024, the "2023 Hyogo Medical University Kobe Campus (Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Graduate School of Pharmacy / Faculty of Nursing, Graduate School of Nursing / Faculty of Rehabilitation Studies, Graduate School of Medical Sciences) Degree Conferment Ceremony" was held at Portopia Hall. Although there had been a series of ceremonies with restrictions on the number of students and seating space due to the coronary disaster, this year's ceremony was held without any restrictions and celebrated the students' graduation from university.
Due to the spread of the new coronavirus, the 277 graduates were forced to undergo various restrictions in the middle of their precious student life, such as cancellation of practical training, changes in curriculum, and suspension of club activities. As a result of their earnest efforts in their studies despite the many changes and uncertainties, they successfully reached graduation day and were awarded their degrees by President Suzuki.
The students' achievements were also honored with various awards, including the "Morimura Award" named after the founder, Dr. Shigeki Morimura, and the "Umi Owl Award" presented by the Hyogo Medical University alumni association, the Umi Owl Society.
President's speech (excerpt)
Congratulations to all the graduates and their parents on your graduation. When you enrolled, the university name and school song were different. Some of you may feel sad, but please look forward to our future development as a comprehensive medical university.
I believe there are two important things a university can do to help you learn and graduate. The first is our responsibility to society to send out quality medical professionals into the world. The second is to provide an education that will equip you with the qualities necessary to lead a happy life as a medical professional.
Japan is heading towards an unprecedented decline in the birthrate and population, and the rapid advances in IT and AI are unlikely to stop.
What do you think is necessary to lead a happy life as a medical professional in such a society? I would like to give two suggestions.
The first is to feel the joy of our patients as our own joy, and the second is to devote all of our energy to what we want to do and what we love.
But doing whatever you want won't work. I want you to promise me two things:
The first thing is to clarify your goals and set them high. Some people have great abilities but tend to lower their own goals. Set clear, high goals for yourself and work hard.
The second is to be ethical and moral. Maintain a certain level of morality as a human being and be a character that everyone will love. Cunning people will be eliminated in the long run. Being honest, moral, and full of humanity is essential for survival.
A wonderful future awaits you all. I hope that you will devote yourself to what you love with confidence and lead happy lives. Congratulations on your graduation today.
