"47th Hyogo Medical University 2023 School of Medicine Graduation Ceremony" held
On March 7, 2024, the 47th Hyogo Medical University 2023 School of Medicine Graduation Ceremony was held at Hyogo Medical University Heisei Memorial Hall Auditorium.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ceremonies have continued to be held with restrictions such as limiting the number of attendees and ensuring seating distance, but this year we were able to celebrate the new beginning without any restrictions.
Due to the spread of COVID-19, the 111 graduating students were forced to face various restrictions in the middle of their precious student life, such as the cancellation of practical training, changes to curriculum, and the suspension of club activities. However, despite the changes and anxieties, they studied diligently and successfully reached graduation day, where they were awarded their diplomas by President Suzuki.
In addition, various awards were presented, including the Morimura Award, named after the founder, Dr. Shigeki Morimura, and the President's Award for the Research Physician Course, given to students in the research physician course who have made outstanding achievements in research activities, and the achievements of the 47th class were recognized.
After the graduation ceremony, the traditional commemorative tree planting took place, making it an unforgettable day for the graduates.
*The graduation ceremonies for the three faculties and three graduate schools on the Kobe Campus were held separately on March 15, 2024. Photos from the ceremony will be posted at a later date.
President's speech (excerpt)
Congratulations to all the sixth graders and their parents on your graduation. We offer our heartfelt congratulations.
Do you remember that I mentioned two important aspects of medical education at our university?
The first is our responsibility to society to send out good doctors into the world.
The other thing is that the university will provide you with the education you need to lead a happy life as a doctor.
Japan is heading towards an unprecedented decline in the birthrate and population, and the rapid advances in IT and AI are unlikely to stop.
What is necessary to lead a happy life as a doctor in such a society?
First of all, something that never changes in any era is the joy I feel when my patients get better.
The other thing is that I want you all to put your all into what you want to do and what you love.
But doing whatever you want won't work. I want you to promise me two things.
The first thing is to clarify your goals and set them high. Our students have great abilities, but some tend to lower their own goals. Set clear, high goals for yourself and work hard.
The second is to be ethical and moral. Maintain a certain level of morality as a human being and be a character that everyone will love.
Cunning people will be weeded out in the long run, and being honest, moral, and humane is essential for survival.
A wonderful future awaits you all. I hope that you will devote yourself to what you love with confidence and lead happy lives.
Congratulations on your graduation today.
