[Medical Engineering Collaboration Project] VR Course Held ~ Hyogo Medical University and Kwansei Gakuin University~
On Thursday, November 16, 2023, a VR lecture was held at the Nishinomiya Campus Education and Research Building, sponsored by the Industry-Academia Collaboration and Research Promotion Department of the Center for Academic-Social Collaboration and Research Promotion.
The event was held in person and was attended by a total of 49 people, including faculty, staff, and graduate students.
Hyogo Medical University and Kwansei Gakuin University aim to "achieve medical and engineering collaboration" by utilizing the technology and knowledge of both universities, and have launched the "Hyogo Medical University of Medicine - Kwansei Gakuin University Medical and Engineering Collaboration Project" from 2022. As part of this project, we invited Professor Imura Masataka from the Faculty of Engineering at Kwansei Gakuin University to give a lecture on the theme of "The Current State and Potential of VR - What it can and cannot do," in which he introduced the current state of VR technology, introduced case studies, and discussed its feasibility, as well as how it can be used in a variety of situations.
After the lecture, participants tried out VR technology by wearing head-mounted displays and experiencing virtual reality, which reproduces visual distortion, a result of joint research with our university, and checking how a stereoscopic display works without the need for 3D glasses.
Going forward, the two universities will continue to aim for broad medical and engineering collaboration, including the launch of new joint research projects.
