User Guide

Opening days and hours

  • Please check the opening days and times on the "Opening Calendar" on the top page.
  • For those outside the university (students and faculty of the PoI 4 partner universities, medical professionals, and high school students), please see "For those outside the university."
  • If there are any changes to opening hours, we will notify you in advance on notices and on the library website.
  • Counter services (borrowing, returning, and group study room use) are available until 30 minutes before closing time.

Usage notes

  • Eating and drinking are prohibited (however, drinks in resealable containers are permitted for hydration).
  • Please be sure to carry your valuables with you.
  • Please refrain from using audio output from electronic devices, or making calls or taking pictures on mobile phones or smartphones.
  • Please treat library materials and equipment with care.

Please cooperate so as not to disturb other users and to ensure a pleasant stay for everyone.

Entry and exit

Admission

Undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and staff members, and those with library user cards must enter the building by presenting their IC card (student ID or faculty and staff ID) or library user card at the entrance control gate.

Leaving the building

Please exit the building by passing through the BDS (Bandwidth Disposal System).

Borrowing and returning

Lending

  • Please present the book you wish to borrow and your IC card (student ID, faculty ID, or library card) to the staff at the counter and complete the loan procedure.
  • Book materials in the textbook section and reference books (dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc.) cannot be borrowed.

Type, number of books, loan period

  • You can borrow up to 5 books.

*Students and faculty of the four partner universities in Port-Ai can borrow up to three books for two weeks.

  • Please return borrowed books to the counter.
  • Please use the book drop when the library is closed.
  • Please return audiovisual materials at the counter, not through the book drop.
  • If you miss the return date, you will not be able to borrow any more items for the number of days that you are late.

reservation

You can reserve books that are currently on loan through "My Library."

Renewing the loan period

You can do this from "My Library." If you wish to apply for a loan renewal at the counter, please be sure to bring the book with you during the loan period.

Requesting materials (interlibrary use)

If you need a book that is not in the library's collection, you can order it through the mutual use system with other universities (institutions) and pick it up at the library. For more information, please inquire during reference service hours.

copy

This is a method to have papers published in books or magazines copied and sent to you by mail. Actual costs such as copying fees and shipping fees will be charged. (Public and scientific research funds can be used.)
Please apply through the "Request for Materials" page on My Library.

Lending

This is a method to have the actual book sent to you by mail. However, since it is an interlibrary loan, you cannot take it home and use it. Basically, it is for use within the library. Actual costs such as round-trip shipping will be charged. (Public funds and research grants can be used.)

View

This is a method to visit other universities or institutions and actually view the materials. Actual costs such as transportation costs will be incurred. As a rule, you must contact the other party in advance, so if you would like to use a library at another university, please be sure to inquire at our library counter (weekdays 9:00-17:00).

Reference Services

This is a service that will answer any inquiries you may have, such as not knowing how to find materials, having questions about the various library services, or wanting more detailed information on search methods. The service is available on weekdays from 9:00 to 17:00 when the library is open.
If you would like to purchase a book that is not in the library's collection, please contact the counter.

Use of copy machines

You may make copies of book materials held by the library for study, research, and study purposes within the limits stipulated in Article 31 of the Copyright Act.

Audiovisual Equipment

You can view DVDs, videos and other audiovisual materials held by the library in the library.

How to use

  • In principle, use is limited to 2 hours per session.
  • Please complete the procedure at the counter and receive headphones, remote controls, etc.
  • After use, please return the equipment to its original state and return the headphones, remote control, etc.

Usage notes

  • You cannot bring in your own audiovisual materials.
  • If you notice any problem with the equipment or audiovisual materials, please contact the counter staff immediately.

Use of group study rooms

If you are studying in a group (3-8 people), you can use the group study room.

Usage time

  • In principle, use is limited to 2 hours per session.
  • Please note that the facility cannot be used if it is required for simultaneous use in classes, etc.

Usage notes

  • Cannot be used by 1-2 people.
  • Please be punctual.
  • After use, please return the whiteboard, chairs, desks, etc. to their original state.
  • If the facility is fully booked, usage time may be restricted. In that case, please follow the instructions of the staff.

Use of Learning Square

Learning Square is a place that supports diversifying ways of learning, such as active learning. Students can study in groups, hold group discussions, and practice presentations.

Usage notes

  • Please note that the facility cannot be used if it is required for simultaneous use in classes, etc.
  • This is a place where conversation is permitted. If you would like to study quietly, please use areas other than the Learning Square (such as group study rooms or reading seats in the library).
  • After use, please return the whiteboard, chairs, desks, etc. to their original state.

For those outside the university (students and faculty of the four partner universities in PoI, those introduced by faculty and staff of our university, medical professionals, and high school students)

  • It is open from 9:00 to 21:00 on weekdays (entry until 19:00).
  • Not available on Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, or during exam periods.
  • Please be sure to contact the library in advance to let us know your plans (weekdays 9:00-17:00). We will let you know what to bring with you.
  • Please use public transportation when visiting the museum.
  • Although it is possible to search the university's library collection using a dedicated terminal, please note that you cannot use other computers.
