Pharmacognosy
Organic and Medicinal Chemistry
Natural products (produced by e.g. plants and microorganisms) have been used as medicines from the past to the present. Moreover, natural materials such as plants are themselves used in traditional medicines such as Kampo medicine. We search for bioactive substances as the seeds for new medicines from natural resources. We also try to develop better methods for evaluating the quality of herbal medicines by elucidating their unknown active ingredients and action mechanisms.
Research Projects
1.Search for excitatory substances for primary sensory neurons from natural resources.
2. Development of crude drug quality evaluation for their stable supply.
3.Search for anti-cancer agents from natural resources.
4.Search for tyrosinase inhibitors from natural resources.
