Formulative Evaluation of Pharmaceuticals
In recent years, the role of pharmacists has shifted significantly from simply providing drugs to specialized patient-focused services, with increasing opportunities for direct interaction with patients. However, some patients are unaware of the benefits of utilizing these services. To help raise awareness of the value of pharmacists, it is important for pharmacists to fully understand the needs of the patients and provide appropriate solutions.
In our laboratory, we evaluate the formulation properties of pharmaceuticals to provide patients with additional information about them that are not described in the package inserts but may be useful to patients. Specifically, we evaluate the usability factors, such as ease of application of medicine for external use (e.g. eye drops and topical agents), focusing on both brand-name and generic prescription drugs, as well as non-prescription over-the-counter drugs.
