Cardiovascular Pharmacology

Pharmacology

Pharmacology is the study of how medicines work in the body. It’s not just useful for pharmacists in their day-to-day work, but it's also crucial for those involved in pharmacotherapy. By understanding how medicines produce their effects and potential side effects, medications can be used more safely in patient care.

Our lab focuses on developing treatments for cardiovascular complications in chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD is a condition where kidney function progressively declines, and if it advances, it can lead to end-stage renal failure as well as cardiovascular diseases. This link between the kidneys and heart is known as cardiorenal syndrome, with factors like increased sympathetic nervous activity and endothelial dysfunction playing key roles. In our lab, we investigate the mechanisms of endothelial dysfunction in CKD, aiming to discover new therapeutic drugs.
