Graduate School of Nursing

Introduction to each specialized field (Master's Program Graduate School of Nursing)

Nursing Basic Research Area

Basic Nursing

Basic Nursing

Students will acquire basic research skills based on nursing practice, such as: 1) nursing theory that guides the direction of nursing, the ethics and human relationships that underpin the foundations of nursing practice, and verification of nursing techniques based on scientific evidence (Physiology verification), and 2) research on techniques based on nursing expertise (skin and excretion care, infection control).

Nursing Education

This course looks at nursing education from the perspectives of basic education, postgraduate education, and continuing education, and explores its essence and identifies issues based on an understanding of various theories and concepts related to nursing education. Students will pursue knowledge and skills related to educational approaches to nurses, creating an educational environment, and the effectiveness of educational methods necessary to improve the quality of nursing care, and acquire basic research skills in nursing education.

Nursing Development Science

This is a field where students can gain in-depth knowledge of EBHC (Evidence-based health care), which bridges the gap between nursing practice and research. In various systematic review research exercises that form the basis of EBHC, students systematically explore literature related to their research topic and actively come into contact with research reports from outside Japan and English literature. Furthermore, through evidence implementation exercises in graduate students' nursing practice, students learn the methodology required to bridge research and practice and the leadership required to realize EBHC. We aim to develop leaders who can improve the field with evidence, and experts in evidence research required for creating guidelines, etc.

Nursing Support for Medical Care

Acute Nursing

This course explores the health and ethical issues of patients and their families in critical situations. It develops practical nursing skills to provide specialized nursing care, including nursing support techniques aimed at maintaining and restoring patients' lives, relieving pain, restoring self-care abilities, and improving quality of life, as well as support for families. It also develops research skills to develop new nursing support techniques for patients and their families in critical situations, and to discover knowledge that can contribute to improving the quality of nursing care.

Cancer Nursing

This course aims to identify issues for cancer survivors and their families to maintain optimal health, and to scientifically explore nursing practice, health care, and welfare to resolve these issues, as well as the role of nursing in a team. Students will learn about the concepts and theories that form the basis of cancer nursing, as well as the latest research on cancer pathology, diagnosis, and treatment. Students will also narrow down their research themes in the field of cancer nursing through discussions and fieldwork on issues and questions in the clinical setting, and develop the ability to carry out nursing research on their own.

Chronic Nursing

This course aims to identify issues for people living with chronic illnesses and their families to maintain optimal health, and to scientifically explore the ideal nursing practice and health care and welfare to resolve these issues. Students will narrow down their research topic by acquiring knowledge and theories on the basis of chronic illness nursing, and by studying various research studies and holding discussions and fieldwork on issues and questions in the clinical setting, and will develop the ability to carry out nursing research on their own.

Psychiatric Nursing

People with mental disabilities have mental illnesses and the lifestyle disorders caused by them, and support for them requires a wide range of specialized support, from medical support for hospitalized patients to support for daily life in the local community. Therefore, students will acquire a wide range of knowledge about comprehensive assessments based on self-care theory and educational intervention methods, and as specialists in the field of psychiatric nursing, will develop practical skills that are useful in supporting people with mental disabilities to actively participate in their own social rehabilitation process.

Family Support Nursing

Pediatric Nursing

We will understand the social circumstances and lifestyles surrounding children and their families, and explore methods for assessing the mental and physical reactions resulting from the health conditions exhibited by children. We will also conduct empirical research into nursing support to resolve health issues and challenges faced by children, parents, and siblings with health disorders such as chronic diseases, as well as inappropriate parent-child relationships and current child-rearing challenges.

Maternal Nursing

We explore health issues that consider cultural, historical and social backgrounds, rather than focusing solely on disease-centered medical care and nursing, in support of health at each stage of a woman's life cycle. Based on women's reproductive health/rights, we also study nursing intervention models from various perspectives, such as health promotion and well-being, and conduct practical research.

Midwifery

This course provides an overview of the historical changes in the environment surrounding childbirth, deepens understanding of women's reproductive sexuality and gender, and explores the policies that have led to medical management of childbirth. Students will also understand women's diverse sexualities and values, and develop basic skills in solving various issues related to the health of women and families using Evidence-Based Health Care (EBHC). Based on an international perspective, students will also learn about the trends in global research in the field of midwifery and conduct practical research.

Life Support Nursing

Gerontological Nursing

This program develops human resources who are equipped to understand the elderly as people who experience changes due to aging and who have diseases and disabilities, assess their health issues, the state of the care system surrounding the elderly, and ethical issues, and master the concepts and theories necessary for geriatric nursing, as well as health and lifestyle evaluation methods, to provide highly specialized assistance and to research and develop nursing methods, so that the elderly can maintain healthy lives.

Community Nursing

We will explore support for solving actual and potential health issues for individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations in the local community. We will also conduct practical research on the development and evaluation methods of community nursing support techniques for people living in the community.

Home Nursing

Students will study the systems, theories, concepts, and nursing models that form the basis of home nursing. They will then explore knowledge that contributes to the development of the knowledge system of home nursing, such as improving the health of home care recipients and their caregivers, improving the quality of home nursing practice, providing support strategies for caregivers, and building home care systems. They will develop the ability to clarify clinical questions and research issues in the field of home nursing and conduct research based on the scientific process.

Nursing Research and Advanced Practice Area (CNS)

Acute and critical care nursing specialist field

This field explores theoretical and practical nursing intervention methods for advanced nursing practice corresponding to advanced medical treatments for individuals, families, and groups who are in critical situations and have complex and difficult-to-solve nursing problems. In particular, students learn advanced knowledge and techniques that combine cure and care to comprehensively grasp people in critical situations, and the knowledge necessary to comprehensively manage the treatment environment centered on individuals and families, while also cultivating the practical skills to fulfill their role as a specialized nurse.

Cancer Nursing Specialist Nurse

This course aims to identify issues for cancer survivors and their families to maintain optimal health, and to scientifically explore nursing practice, health care, and welfare to resolve these issues, as well as the role of nursing in a team. Students will learn about and study the concepts and theories that form the basis of cancer nursing, as well as the latest findings on the pathology, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. Through learning and practical training on the role of cancer nursing specialists (practice, consultation, coordination, ethical coordination, education), students will acquire outstanding skills and problem-solving abilities to efficiently provide high-quality nursing care. In addition, through discussions and fieldwork on issues and questions in the clinical setting, students will develop research skills that can be utilized in the field of cancer nursing.
