"Stop the metabolic domino effect!!"
Obesity Center, Hyogo Medical University Hospital, Yoshika Orino, Manabu Kadotani, Yasunori Kurahashi

<Instructor's comment>
The "metabolic domino" is a chain of events that begins with "lifestyle disorders" such as overeating and lack of exercise, and leads to metabolic syndrome, diseases such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia, and then on to kidney failure, retinopathy, cerebrovascular disease, and ischemic heart disease, eventually leading to terminal conditions such as dialysis, blindness, stroke, and heart failure. This article introduces the efforts of the Obesity Center Hyogo Medical University, which aims to stop this domino effect upstream, from the perspectives of the Department of Nutrition, Internal Medicine, and Surgery.

"Are you allergic to fish? Are you allergic to anisakis?"
Masaaki Tamura, Department of Allergy and Rheumatology, Hyogo Medical University Hospital

<Instructor's comment>
There are three causes to consider when experiencing an allergic reaction to fish. The first is fish allergy, the second is histamine poisoning, and the third is anisakis allergy, which I am currently researching with Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. Japanese people have the habit of eating raw fish, and in recent years there have been an increasing number of reports of food poisoning caused by anisakis, as well as an increase in symptoms of anisakis allergy. In this lecture, I will provide a detailed explanation of the three causes of seafood allergies, with a particular focus on anisakis allergy.

"Dramatic Evolution! The Cutting Edge of Lung Cancer Treatment"
Daichi Fujimoto, Department of Respiratory Medicine Hyogo Medical University Hospital

<Instructor's comment>
The number of lung cancer patients continues to increase for both men and women, and it accounts for a high proportion of all cancers. The three pillars of treatment are surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. In recent years, dramatic advances have been made in minimally invasive surgery and radiation therapy that do not burden the patient, as well as individualized chemotherapy. At Hyogo Medical University, the Departments of Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Radiology work together to determine the best cutting-edge treatment plan for each patient and provide treatment. This article explains the cutting edge of lung cancer treatment.
