Discovery that intratumoral lymphocytes correlate with breast cancer survival rate - Toward further elucidation of the function of intratumoral lymphocytes -
A research group led by Professor Yasuo Miyoshi and Associate Professor Masayuki Nagahashi of the Department Department of Breast and Endocrine Surgery Hyogo Medical University (Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture; President Keiichiro Suzuki), in collaboration with Clinical Assistant Professor Rongrong Wu and Chair Professor Takashi Ishikawa of the Department of Breast Science at Tokyo Medical University (President Yukiko Hayashi; Shinjuku, Tokyo), Chair Professor Kazuaki Takabe of the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center (New York, USA), and Assistant Professor Masanori Oshi and Chair Professor Itaru Endo of the Department of Gastroenterological and Oncological Surgery at Yokohama City University (Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture), has demonstrated that the amount of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), estimated from gene expression patterns, is related to breast cancer survival rates. These research results may provide new insights into breast cancer prognosis prediction and improved treatment strategies.
This study was also presented at the 143rd American Surgical Association (ASA) meeting on April 22, 2023, and the results were published in the Annals of Surgery (IF = 13.787) on June 15, 2023.
