Hyogo Prefectural Tamba Medical Center (Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture; Hospital Director: Akita Hotaka *hereinafter referred to as Tamba Medical Center) and Hyogo Medical University of Medicine Sasayama Medical Center (Tamba Sasayama City, Hyogo Prefecture; Hospital Director: Katayama Satoru *hereinafter referred to as Sasayama Medical Center) have decided to enter into a collaboration agreement on March 1, 2020 to provide safe and secure perinatal medical care.

Background to the Agreement
Sasayama Medical Center has been providing perinatal medical care to the people of the Tanba Sasayama area as a delivery facility for many years. However, due to a long-standing shortage of obstetricians, we have been struggling to establish a safe and secure perinatal medical system, and as announced in a recent press release, we have decided to suspend delivery services at the end of March 2020.

These problems are not limited to the Tanba Sasayama region, but are common throughout Hyogo Prefecture and Japan, and each medical institution providing perinatal care must take the lead in implementing measures to address them. In order to support perinatal care in the region and provide safe and secure perinatal care in the future, it is becoming increasingly important for local medical institutions to cooperate in "consolidating delivery functions," "dividing the roles of perinatal medical functions," and "close and smooth medical cooperation," and to make effective use of limited medical resources, including human resources.

Therefore, we have now decided to enter into a collaboration agreement with Tamba Medical Center, which, like Sasayama Medical Center, is a core hospital in the Tamba medical area and provides a wide range of medical care from the acute phase to the recovery and end-of-life phases in line with local needs, supporting perinatal medical care in the region.

Specific collaboration details
Specifically, if a pregnant woman who receives a prenatal checkup at Sasayama Medical Center chooses to give birth at Tamba Medical Center, Tamba Medical Center will provide medical care for the birth and both before and after birth. If desired, postpartum care will also be provided at Sasayama Medical Center. In addition to sharing medical information between the two hospitals to provide more effective perinatal care, we also aim to introduce an "open system" whereby Tamba Medical Center will accept on-site consultations by obstetricians and midwives from Sasayama Medical Center, in order to provide safe, secure, and stress-free perinatal care to pregnant women and other local residents.
