Our university has established an educational curriculum to develop human resources who can achieve our diploma policy.

(1) We offer courses that provide students with the learning methods and basic skills, such as communication, necessary for university studies, as well as specialized subjects necessary for medical professionals and liberal arts subjects, such as natural sciences, humanities, and languages.
(2) The curriculum will include elements of interprofessional education and cutting-edge research, and will systematically organize specialized subjects and offer classes that appropriately combine lectures, seminars, practical training, etc.

In order to achieve our diploma policy, we will organize and implement our educational curriculum in accordance with the following guidelines.

Curriculum Policy

Implementation Policy

1. In order to acquire a broad range of knowledge, students will study a variety of humanities and social science subjects at Kwansei Gakuin University.
2. In order to foster international awareness and language skills, we will provide global health education through small-group English conversation classes, medical English classes, clinical courses conducted entirely in English, exam questions in English, and exchange programs with overseas partner institutions for academic exchange.
3. In order to foster an excellent cooperative spirit in carrying out team medical care, we will implement team medical care exercises jointly with our four faculties and Kwansei Gakuin University.
4. In order to grasp the socio-economic trends surrounding medical care in Japan and Hyogo Prefecture, and to understand equalization of medical care and community medical care, students will undergo clinical training at Sasayama Medical Center.
5. Students will have the opportunity to experience and practice medicine that will deepen their sense of belonging and attachment to our university and contribute to local medical care.
6. In order to cultivate rich humanity and train doctors who are considerate of patients, we will provide systematic early clinical experience training.
7. We will provide ongoing ethical education as a course of study in order to protect the human rights of patients and their families, comply with the duties of doctors and medical ethics, and ensure patient safety.
8. In order to understand human diversity and diverse ways of thinking, students will have extensive interactions with a variety of patients, paramedical staff, students from other faculties, and students from Kwansei Gakuin University, and will continue to receive communication education from their first to fourth years.
9. We provide systematic pain education to help patients understand their pain and suffering.
10. Utilizing the basic knowledge acquired before enrollment, we will gradually provide remedial education, academic literacy education, basic science and mathematics education, preparatory education for medicine, and basic medical education, so that students can acquire basic concepts of life science, improve their learning ability, and cultivate their intellectual curiosity.
11. In order to provide students with basic knowledge about the human body and basic treatment methods for various illnesses, we will introduce an integrated curriculum based on the Model Core Curriculum for Medical Education and practical training involving clinical experience.
12. Team-based learning will be implemented to develop application skills and problem-solving abilities that will enable students to comprehensively grasp and solve the various problems patients face.
13. In order to educate students in cutting-edge medical knowledge and to cultivate the motivation and basic knowledge to carry out research, we will assign students to laboratories and provide them with research courses.
14. In order to acquire appropriate communication skills, basic examination methods, medical techniques, practical treatment methods, and emergency medical care, approximately 72 weeks of bedside education will be provided, including contact with patients in the lower grades.
15. You will understand the timeline of all medical care, from preventive and preemptive medical care to home medical care and end-of-life care, and learn primary care.
16. In order to foster the desire and attitude to continue self-improvement throughout one's life, we will implement advanced elective subjects and free elective training, and in order to create educational opportunities for colleagues and juniors, we will implement a peer support system and a Yanegawara-style clinical training.
17. We will provide ICT education necessary for carrying out medical care and medical research.

Evaluation method

Evaluation will be based on the policy stated in the syllabus for each subject. Evaluation for clinical training will be done by computer-based testing and OSCE. In each year except for the first and third years, evaluation will be done by a comprehensive exam.

School of Pharmacy

In order to acquire the skills required by the diploma policy, the university has created a distinctive curriculum that incorporates the following unique courses.

1. We offer courses that cultivate broad-based education and a rich humanity.
2. We provide courses that cultivate the ethics, sense of mission, and responsibility necessary for pharmacists.
3. We will provide integrated courses that will cultivate the ability to cooperate and collaborate within team medical care.
4. We will provide courses that will develop the communication skills necessary for pharmacists to practice drug therapy.
5. We provide courses that provide the knowledge and skills necessary for pharmacists, from basic pharmacy to clinical pharmacy.
6. We will provide courses that will enable students to acquire knowledge about local medical care, health, welfare, etc., and develop the ability to link this knowledge to the promotion of health of local residents and the improvement of public health.
7. We offer research subjects that will cultivate a spirit of scientific inquiry and develop the ability to identify and solve problems in the fields of pharmacy and medical care.

Curriculum Policy

In order to achieve the learning outcomes required for graduation, the curriculum is organized as follows:
In the first year, students will be placed in basic high school-college connecting subjects.
In order to cultivate a wide range of knowledge, humanity, ethics, a sense of mission, and a sense of responsibility from an early stage, liberal arts subjects such as humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences as well as humanism education subjects are offered from the early years.
In order to solidify the career image at an early stage, basic pharmaceutical subjects and specialized subjects are arranged from the first year, and are developed step by step in each year.
In order to raise awareness and educate students on the proper attitudes as medical professionals, interprofessional education subjects and communication-related subjects will be offered continuously and in a progressive manner over several years.
In order to cultivate a spirit of scientific inquiry, practical training courses are offered in the second and third years.
As a preparatory education for practical training, clinical pharmacy subjects are offered from the third year.
In order to develop the ability to comprehensively utilize pharmaceutical knowledge, pharmacy and hospital practical training will be arranged mainly in the fifth year.
In order to enhance students' ability to identify issues, solve problems, and improve their self-improvement skills, we offer research training and seminar courses from the fourth year onwards.

Implementation Policy

In addition to lectures and exercises, we actively incorporate participatory learning such as group learning, problem-based learning, and team-based learning with the aim of improving learning efficiency, forming an active learning attitude, and cultivating communication skills. In order to cultivate logical thinking skills and a scientific spirit of inquiry, we incorporate practical subjects, research training, and research training. Furthermore, we collaborate with medical facilities and other institutions to implement participatory and experiential practical training. We also incorporate tours of medical facilities, pharmaceutical hygiene facilities, and companies related to course subjects, guest lectures by academic experts and drug-related patients, and class participation by medical professionals and simulated patients.

Evaluation method

In addition to paper exams and report evaluation, students will be evaluated from a wide range of perspectives, including skill and attitude evaluation, peer evaluation, oral examinations and presentations.

Assessment of learning outcomes

The degree of achievement of the qualities and abilities set out in the diploma policy will be evaluated using diploma rubric assessments in each grade and performance assessments related to the diploma policy within each subject.

School of Nursing

In order to cultivate human resources who can achieve the diploma policy, School of Nursing has put together a distinctive curriculum that incorporates courses that comply with the "Regulations for Designating Public Health Nurse, Midwife, and Nurse School Training Institutions" as well as courses that the university has independently established.

Curriculum Policy

1. The curriculum will be composed of three areas: "General Education," "Specialized General Education," and "Specialized Fields."
2. Based on the meta-paradigm concepts of "human," "health," "environment," and "nursing" in nursing, as well as human growth and development and nursing that responds to the medical environment, subjects that include these contents are organized effectively and systematically. In addition, subjects are arranged in a well-balanced manner so that they build up from General Education to specialized General Education and specialized fields as students progress through the academic year.
3. In order to effectively develop nursing practice skills, the course will be structured to include a mix of lectures, exercises, and off-campus training. In addition, off-campus training will be arranged in each year so that nursing practice skills can be acquired in a gradual and progressive manner.

Implementation Policy

In addition to lectures, classes will actively incorporate participatory learning methods such as group learning, problem-based learning, and team-based learning, with the aim of improving learning efficiency, forming an active learning attitude, and cultivating communication skills. Furthermore, we will incorporate lectures by invited academic experts related to the course, and participation in classes by people involved and simulated patients.
The on-campus exercises incorporate simulation education, and actively implement practical learning methods by utilizing simulator dolls and setting up mock hospital rooms (practical rooms).
In off-campus training, students will develop nursing practice under the guidance of faculty and clinical instructors in order to integrate knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the clinical setting.

Evaluation method

The grading method is multifaceted, including paper exams, report evaluations, practical exams, evaluation of learning attitude, peer evaluation, etc. For off-campus training, the evaluation will also be based on understanding of the subject, the accuracy of nursing techniques, and ethical nursing practice.

School of Rehabilitation

We have put together a distinctive curriculum that incorporates courses that comply with the "Regulations for Designating Training Institutions for Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists" as well as courses that have been independently established by our school.

Department of Physical Therapy

2. Courses to acquire the basic attitude of a physical therapist
3. Subjects to understand people physically and mentally, which is necessary for practicing physical therapy, and specialized basic subjects to acquire knowledge of various diseases and disabilities

Department of Occupational Therapy

2. Courses to acquire the basic attitude of an occupational therapist
3. Subjects to acquire psychological and medical knowledge of people necessary for practicing occupational therapy, and specialized basic subjects to acquire knowledge of various diseases and disabilities

The organization policy, implementation policy, and grading method are the same for both departments.

Curriculum Policy

In the first semester of the first year, students will complete all of their university-level educational programs and acquire the necessary knowledge to become medical professionals.
In principle, liberal arts subjects, basic specialized subjects, and specialized subjects will be studied in stages from the first year to the fourth year.
Specialist subjects (including clinical training) to establish an image of the profession of physical therapist and occupational therapist, as well as subjects to cultivate the ability to work across multiple professions, are offered continuously from the first year through to the fourth year.
In the final year, students take comprehensive courses that allow them to integrate all the results of their studies and acquire the skills to continue to improve themselves even after graduation.

Implementation Policy

In addition to lectures, classes will be structured to actively incorporate participatory learning (methods in which students take the initiative in learning), such as group learning, problem-based learning, and team-based learning, as well as on-the-job training, with the aim of improving learning efficiency, forming an active learning attitude, and cultivating communication skills. Furthermore, professionalism will be cultivated by incorporating tours of facilities and companies related to physical therapy and occupational therapy, lectures by invited academic experts, and participation in classes by people with disabilities and simulated patients.

Evaluation method

The grading method is multifaceted, including written exams, report evaluations, practical exams, evaluation of learning attitude, peer evaluation (evaluation by students), etc. During off-campus training, students are also evaluated on their attitude as a physical therapist or occupational therapist, how they handle human relationships, and their motivation to learn.

Curriculum Policy

Hyogo Medical University In accordance with the founding spirit of Hyogo Medical University Educational Corporation, "Service to the welfare of society," "Deep love for human beings," and "Broad scientific understanding of human beings," the Graduate School Graduate School of Medicine aims to cultivate medical researchers who have acquired the advanced knowledge and abilities stipulated in the "Diploma Policy" and have a rich sense of humanity and have cultivated high medical and research ethics. The curriculum will be organized and implemented as follows.

Implementation Policy

・Students will take systematic coursework to develop an understanding of diverse cultures, medical and healthcare issues, and social welfare issues, and to foster a deep education and a strong desire for lifelong learning.
- Through "research work," in which students conduct medical research on a topic of their own choosing, we provide an education that cultivates rich humanity and helps students build good human relationships.
・We provide research ethics education based on ethical guidelines for life science and medical research involving human subjects through graduate school lectures and research work, in order to cultivate a compassionate attitude that respects research subjects and build appropriate relationships of trust and cooperation.
- To ensure that laboratory animals, which contribute to human welfare, are managed appropriately in a spirit of animal welfare, we will provide systematic education through "basic lectures" on animal welfare, the care and keeping of laboratory animals, and the alleviation of pain and suffering.
- Through "research work," students will receive cross-disciplinary and organic research guidance from supervisors and other researchers so that they can identify essential problems in medicine and develop original research plans.
- Through "technical seminars" and "basic lectures," students will acquire basic skills related to medical research, and will develop the ability to utilize advanced information and science technology to find ways to solve problems.
- We provide education that exposes students to advanced medical knowledge and cutting-edge, excellent research through "graduate school lectures" and other programs.
- We provide an opportunity for students to exchange ideas and hold debates with other researchers at events such as the "Interim Presentations" and the "Four-Faculty Interaction Event," thereby cultivating the communication skills required to increase their academic knowledge and the ability to logically interpret and discuss research results.
・In order to develop an international perspective and an academic mindset, we encourage students to actively participate in opportunities to learn about cutting-edge medical research and medical technology both in Japan and overseas (such as academic conferences). We also encourage students to develop their presentation skills and ability to write papers in English, and to actively present their research results at international conferences.

Evaluation method

Grades will be assessed by the supervising professor and the course director based on the grading criteria, according to the degree of achievement of the goals and the degree of mastery of the basic knowledge and skills that should be acquired.
In accordance with the Degree Regulations, the Thesis Examination Committee will review the thesis and the final examination rigorously and fairly, and the President will then decide whether or not the thesis has passed after hearing the opinion of the Graduate School of Medicine Faculty Council.

Graduate School of Pharmacy

The following curriculum has been organized to acquire the competencies required by the diploma policy.

1. In order to provide students with a wide range of pharmaceutical knowledge and research ethics, we offer the following specialized foundational subjects: Advanced Medical Science I-IV.
2. In order to enable students to acquire advanced specialized knowledge, we will provide a large number of specialized seminar subjects, "Specialized Seminar I" and "Specialized Seminar II," which students can choose from among closely related specialized fields.
3. In order to improve research capabilities, special research in medical pharmacy will be included as a research guidance subject.

Curriculum Policy

In order to allow students to quickly acquire a wide range of pharmaceutical knowledge and research ethics that form the foundation of research, specialized foundational subjects are placed in the first year.In order to allow students to acquire knowledge and skills in closely related specialized fields in depth, specialized seminar subjects are placed in the lower years.In order to develop a wide range of research abilities, including the ability to identify problems necessary for researchers, the ability to plan and carry out research to solve them, and the ability to disseminate information, research guidance subjects are placed throughout the four years.

Implementation Policy

The coursework in the Specialized Foundations and Specialized Seminars is divided among several faculty members of the Graduate School in order to cultivate a broad perspective in students and enable interdisciplinary research. The research guidance subjects in the Research Work are conducted under the guidance of a research advisor in order to acquire sufficient knowledge, skills, and attitudes to become an independent researcher through the exploration and setting of research topics, the formulation of research plans, the execution of research, and the compilation and publication of research results.

Evaluation method

Grades will be assessed by the subject leader based on the grading criteria, and on active and proactive participation in class and research, as well as submitted work (reports, research papers, etc.).
In accordance with the Degree Regulations, the Thesis Examination Committee will review the thesis and the final examination rigorously and fairly, and the President will then decide whether or not the thesis passes after hearing the opinion of the Graduate School of Pharmacy Faculty Council.

Graduate School of Nursing Master's Program

Curriculum Policy

1. Graduate School of Nursing will have two courses: the "Basic Nursing Research Area" which aims to develop educators and researchers, and the "Nursing Topic Research and Advanced Practice Area (CNS)" which aims to develop advanced nursing practitioners.
2. The nursing basic research area consists of four fields: Basic Nursing, Medical Care Support Nursing, Family Support Nursing, and Life Support Nursing. The nursing problem research and advanced practice area (CNS) consists of two fields: Acute/Critical Care Nursing Specialist Nurses and Cancer Nursing Specialist Nurses.
3. The curriculum will be divided into three categories: "Common Subjects (Master's and Doctoral Programs)," "Common Subjects for the Graduate Graduate School of Nursing," and "Specialized Subjects Graduate School of Nursing."
4. Common subjects in the Master's Program are placed in the first year with the aim of acquiring evidence-based specialized knowledge related to medicine, health, and welfare, applying it to advanced practice, and acquiring the latest information and issues related to advanced medical care.
5. Graduate School of Nursing common subjects are placed in the first year with the aim of acquiring the necessary specialized knowledge and research/practical skills across each nursing field, the areas of basic nursing research, advanced nursing research, and advanced practice.
6. The specialized subjects Graduate School of Nursing include Special Lectures on Nursing, which explores major concepts and theories, Special Lectures on Nursing Support, which explores nursing targets and support frameworks, and Nursing Exercises, which enhance professional nursing practice skills through on-campus and clinical experiences.
7. In the area of basic nursing research, special nursing research will be conducted to develop research capabilities.
8. In the area of nursing research and advanced practice (CNS), students will be provided with practical training to acquire the nursing practice skills and roles required of a specialist nurse, as well as nursing research that seeks to improve the quality of nursing practice.

Implementation Policy

1. Lectures in general and specialized subjects implemented as coursework will be two-way and multi-directional in order to cultivate a broad perspective in students and to develop educators and researchers as well as advanced nursing practitioners.
2. In specialized subjects implemented as research work, students will deepen their expertise in their respective fields under the guidance of a supervisor, set a research theme, and carry out fieldwork and seminar-style presentation-based exercises to clarify research questions.
3. For special research and topic research, a research plan will be prepared under the guidance of a supervisor, and opinions will be obtained from the faculty members of the Graduate Graduate School of Nursing and other graduate students through a presentation at an interim report meeting. After that, for special research, a team of two supervisors (the main supervisor and the sub-supervisor) will provide guidance for the application for ethics review, conduct the research, analyze and consider data, and provide guidance for writing a thesis.
4. Nursing subject research and advanced practice nursing training for Certified Nurse Specialists (CNS) involves practical training to acquire high levels of expertise and excellent nursing practice skills as a certified nurse, as well as guidance in nursing subject research that seeks to improve the quality of nursing practice.

Evaluation method

Grades will be assessed by the subject leader based on the grading criteria, and on a student's positive and proactive attitude toward class and research, as well as submitted work (reports, research papers, etc.).
In accordance with the degree regulations, the thesis and research report will be reviewed rigorously and fairly by the Thesis Review Committee and the final examination. After hearing the opinion of the Graduate School of Graduate School of Nursing Council, the President will decide whether or not the student passes the thesis.

Graduate Graduate School of Nursing Program

Curriculum Policy

The curriculum is made up of three subject categories: "Basic Subjects," "Specialized Subjects," and "Research Subjects."

1. "Basic subjects" include subjects that will develop the foundations for conducting independent research from a global and interdisciplinary perspective, as well as the foundations necessary to lead the development of nursing practice.
2. "Specialized subjects" will consist of "special lectures" that will deepen students' understanding of the latest knowledge and trends in their specialized fields and global standards, and will foster their communication skills, ability to innovate, and ability to educate.
3. "Research subjects" are arranged as "special research" subjects that develop the ability to summarize the issues clarified in the course of specialized subjects through a research process into a research paper. Based on the study of basic and specialized subjects, it is structured so that students can acquire the ability to autonomously conduct and evaluate research.

Implementation Policy

In "Basic Subjects" and "Specialized Subjects," students learn about the main concepts, theories, and issues in their specialized fields, as well as research methods suitable for exploring them and the current state of previous research, thereby acquiring the foundations for carrying out special research. These subjects are small-group, interactive classes that incorporate exercises to encourage students to relate to their own research. Special research, which is a "research subject," is offered from the first year and is designed to allow students to learn the research process in stages, based on what they have learned in "Basic Subjects" and "Specialized Subjects." Students receive individual guidance from their main and secondary supervisors, and in "Special Research I" and "Special Research II," they give mid-term reports, while in "Special Research III," they have the opportunity to submit their research to an academic journal, providing an opportunity to receive advice and criticism from sources other than their supervisor.

Grades will be assessed by the subject leader based on the grading criteria, and on a student's positive and proactive attitude toward class and research, as well as submitted work (reports, research papers, etc.).

Graduate School of Rehabilitation Science Master's Program

The curriculum is comprised of the following three subjects, with the aim of nurturing educators and researchers with an emphasis on specialization, as well as advanced medical professionals.

2. Graduate Graduate School of Rehabilitation Science
3. Specialized subjects Graduate School of Rehabilitation Science to acquire practical research skills

Curriculum Policy

1. General and specialized foundation subjects will be placed mainly in the first year.
2. Subjects aimed at students aiming to become researchers or educators, such as statistics and education theory (training education and clinical education), will be placed in the first semester of the second year.
3. You will be engaged in research activities throughout your period of enrollment.

Implementation Policy

The general subjects, basic specialized subjects, and specialized subjects implemented as coursework use a two-way, multi-directional lecture format to cultivate students' broad perspectives and emphasize the exchange of opinions between students. The graduate school specialized subjects implemented as research work are conducted mainly under the guidance of research supervisors through the exchange of opinions involving all faculty and graduate students belonging to each research field. The curriculum is implemented with consideration for working graduate students.

Evaluation method

Grades will be assessed by the subject leader based on the grading criteria, and on a student's positive and proactive attitude toward class and research, as well as submitted work (reports, research papers, etc.).
In accordance with the Degree Regulations, the Thesis Examination Committee will conduct a rigorous and fair thesis review and final examination for each dissertation, and the President will then decide whether or not the dissertation has passed after hearing the opinion of the Graduate School of Rehabilitation Science Council.

Graduate School of Rehabilitation Science Doctoral Program

The curriculum is designed to foster medical professionals who can scientifically understand health from a comprehensive and diverse perspective and create a new academic foundation to help people live their own lives until the end. In this field, after acquiring the four competencies of research management, logical thinking, creativity, and communication, which are the components of the diploma policy, education is provided through the organization of "specialized basic subjects," "specialized subjects," and "research guidance subjects" according to the following guidelines, with the aim of cultivating the ability to lead the next generation of rehabilitation science.

Curriculum Policy

1. We have courses designed to develop talent that can set specific goals in the field of rehabilitation science and carry out at a high level the entire process from research design to writing papers and publishing research results.
2. We offer courses aimed at acquiring the comprehensive perspective and research skills necessary to develop and deepen rehabilitation science.
3. We will provide courses that will equip students with the ability to practically tackle advanced research problems based on logical thinking.
4. We will offer courses that will equip students with the ability to create and disseminate solutions to topics in which new developments are expected in rehabilitation science, based on an advanced, interdisciplinary perspective with an eye to the future.
5. We will offer courses that aim to create new knowledge and disseminate information on an international scale.

Implementation Policy

The course consists of specialized foundation subjects, specialized subjects, research guidance subjects, and elective subjects. The specialized foundation subjects include subjects that will enhance the ability to play an active role in the international field, as well as subjects that will equip students with the ability to create and disseminate new solutions based on advanced and interdisciplinary perspectives. In the specialized subjects, in addition to lectures necessary for practical research based on rehabilitation science, a team of supervising teachers is formed according to the student's research theme, and students deepen their learning through two-way discussions.

Evaluation method

Grades will be assessed by the subject leader based on the grading criteria, and on a student's positive and proactive attitude toward class and research, as well as submitted work (reports, research papers, etc.).
