Overview
She was involved as a co-researcher in the project "Development of continuous support by visiting midwives for HTLV-1 positive pregnant women who choose short-term breastfeeding (Principal Investigator: Shimoshikiryo Sumiko, Project Number: 16K12186)" funded by Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (C).
This study aimed to clarify the actual situation of the transition from short-term breastfeeding to artificial feeding and the support provided by midwives who provided ongoing support through home visits to HTLV-1 positive pregnant women who chose short-term breastfeeding, based on the visit records. Analysis of the visit records of the ongoing home visits by the midwife in charge to support the transition to artificial feeding revealed the experiences and thoughts of mothers who chose short-term breastfeeding, as well as the specific support provided by the midwife, suggesting the need for ongoing support from midwives to complete the end of breastfeeding in the short period of three months.
What's new?
Because the number of HTLV-1 positive pregnant women is small, there are very few studies regarding their decision-making and support.
What are its advantages over other studies?
Midwives, who are in a position to easily listen to the thoughts of pregnant women, provide ongoing support to help them finish breastfeeding within the short period of three months.
What problem does it help solve?
For pregnant women who are HIV positive, many find out they are HIV positive when they become pregnant, but they have few resources to seek advice from and are faced with the difficult situation of having to decide on a nutritional method during pregnancy.
