About my study in Hyogo College of Medicine

● 鄔 倩雲さん(汕頭大学)

saita01.jpg My name is Sherry, a student in fourth year of Shantou University of Medical College. It’s my great honor to have four week exchange student life in Hyogo College of Medicine from July 12th to August 10th.

We arrived in Japan on July 12th,2014. What impressed me most is the environment:clean sky, delicate houses, polite people. Hyogo College of Medicine had prepared a nice apartment for me. It has equipped with basic equipment and devices such as television, air-condition, microwave, refrigerator, washing-machine, so it’s very convenient. In the evening, the students who had been exchange students to Shantou University of Medical College treated us a wonderful Japanese dinner. It is the first time for us to have many kinds of raw fish and so many traditional Japanese foods.

Gastroenterology

kanemoto02.jpgI studied in Gastroenterology in the first two weeks. Before I went to Japan, I wrote a CV to show a great interest in endoscope. I was so happy to find that Professor Miwa had prepared a schedule for me to study in endoscope center.

I had different doctors to teach me knowledge which made me learn different fields of endoscope. There are many differences among Japan and China. First, the equipment, in Japan doctors use the latest Olympus gastroscope and colonscope which can observe the mucosa clearer. Second, the treatments, in Japan doctors use NBI (narrow brand imaging) to diagnose gastric and colonic cancers which is not used in my college’s hospital. It can help to find the early cancer. Besides, I saw many EMR (endoscopic mucosal resection) for early gastric and colonic cancers which I haven’t seen before. Third, what surprised is that doctors do intravenous anesthesia by themselves. Nevertheless, only anesthetist can do intravenous anesthesia in China. Last but not the least, the atmosphere, in China, the relationship among doctors and patients is worse, sometimes they even have arguments. However, in Japan, I find that doctors and patients are in great harmony. Doctors and nurses are friendly to patients and patients respect for doctors. I really enjoy the harmonious atmosphere. During this time, I was so lucky that I had three classes to learn how to do endoscope with Japanese students. I also had some chances to practice. Even we had some problems in communicating, but the doctors and students were patient with me.

saita01.jpgOn Wednesday of the first week, I went to output’s clinic with professor Miwa. He is very nice and interesting. Before I went Japan I read some articles written by professor Miwa. He is famous for functional dyspepsia. So it is my great honor to study some knowledge about FD from him.

Obstetrics and Gynecology

saita01.jpg During the last two weeks, I studied in Obstetrics and Gynecology. I met a very nice doctor, who can speak Japanese, English, and Spanish very well. I followed her to see how to receive patients, how to do Gynecological examination and Pregnancy check-ups, how to inform disease and how to do some surgeries. It is necessary for me to learn B-ultrasonic about baby. I learned how to measure BPD, HC, AC, FL, HL and how to recognize the gender of baby. She was so nice to me and explained some detailed things about patients. In this department, doctors work both in Obstetrics and Gynecology, but we divide it into two departments and each department has its own doctors in China. During this time I had two chances to participate in surgeries(one for cesarean, one for Ovarian tumor resection).I found that the method of surgery was same as China’s, but some equipments were quite different. For example, doctors use liquid dressing in Japan, but we use gauze dressing. Besides, after surgery doctors will wait for the patients to wake and then bring patients back to Ward by themselves. I think the patients in Obstetrics and Gynecology will feel comfortable because one nurse takes care of one patient, the wards are comfortable with television, air-condition, refrigerator and so on, and doctors can spend over one hours to explain the detailed information about the disease or the treatment. But in China, we can’t provide patients such a good environment.

I show a great interest in reproductive medicine, and professor Shibahara is famous for it. I went to output’s clinic with him. Although he was so busy, he explained the information about the patients one by one and taught me a lot of knowledge about infertility such as IVF( in vitro fertilization). Now, more and more couples suffer from infertility in China.

The last day in Obstetrics and Gynecology, They prepared a farewell party for me. Doctors taught me how to cook Takoyaki and rent a Yukata for me and we had a wonderful meal tighter. It was interesting to talk about different lives, hobbies and dreams between Japanese and Chinese. I had a wonderful time.

Spare Time

saita01.jpgIn my spare time, I went to some tourist resort such as Kyoto Osaka and Nara. The ancient shrines, the giant Buddha, the stunning scenery, the tall buildings, the cute deers and the polite Japanese were the most attractive for sightseeing. Although they are modern cities, however, they remain traditional buildings such as temples, which make the cities more attractive and charming. I felt the true Japanese culture.
